This epiphyte is found in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia, thriving in both cool mountains and hot savannahs but preferring warm, humid conditions with bright light. It grows mostly pendulously, with slender, sulcate, stem-like pseudobulbs and a single whiplike, terete leaf. Blooming in late spring to early summer, it produces up to six highly fragrant flowers on a short racemose inflorescence. The flowers emit a strong Gardenia-like scent at night, adding to their appeal.
