This orchid is found in Brazil, northern Argentina, and eastern Paraguay, growing as a medium-sized epiphyte or lithophyte in both sun and shade. It has cylindrical pseudobulbs with two leathery, elliptic-oblong leaves. Blooming in late summer, it produces a 12-inch (30 cm) terminal inflorescence with 2 to 9 long-lived, waxy flowers that vary in color and emit a milk chocolate fragrance. A small, broad, dried sheath subtends the inflorescence. It thrives in cool to warm conditions.
