This medium-sized epiphyte grows in thick montane forests from 500 to 2000 meters in the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, southern China, and Vietnam. It has pendulous, slender, many-noded stems with narrow, leathery leaves. Blooming in late winter to spring, it produces a 30 to 32.5 cm long inflorescence with 12 to 18 fragrant, fleshy, long-lasting flowers from the nodes near the apex of its leafless, meter-long canes.
