Dendrobium violaceum

This miniature, cool to warm growing orchid is found in New Guinea at elevations of 750 to 2000 meters in secondary growth and forest edges with bright light. It grows as an epiphyte, lithophyte, or occasional terrestrial with thick, fleshy, basally swollen stems carrying 2 to 4 linear, channeled leaves. Blooming year-round, it produces a short, basal inflorescence with 2 to 10 clustered, long-lasting flowers, with several opening at a time.
