This epiphyte, ranging from small to large in size, is found in the Moluccas, New Guinea, the Caroline Islands, Fiji, and Vanuatu from sea level to 1150 meters in coastal lowlands and montane forests. It has cylindrical to spindle-shaped, erect, curved, or pendulous stems with silvery sheaths and dark green, lanceolate, deciduous leaves. Blooming mainly in spring but also year-round, it produces a short, several to many-flowered inflorescence with clustered, semi-closed flowers on both leafy and leafless stems.
