This large, warm-growing, pendant epiphyte is found in Assam, the eastern and western Himalayas, Nepal, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Yunnan (China), and Vietnam at 500 to 1000 meters on deciduous trees, requiring at least 3 hours of direct sunlight daily. It has clustered, ascending, prostrate, or pendulous sulcate stems covered in white sheaths. Blooming from winter to summer, it produces 1 to 2 fragrant flowers on a short inflorescence. It needs heavy watering and fertilization until late September.
