Commonly known as the bamboo orchid due to its tall, thin, bamboo-like stems with alternating lanceolate leaves, this giant-sized terrestrial orchid grows in hot to cool climates from sea level to 1200 meters. Blooming throughout the year, it produces a short, 8 cm inflorescence with 2 to 6 fragrant, Cattleya-like flowers, one at a time, that are short-lived but bloom successively for an extended period. It shares similar growing conditions with Sobralia and has expanded its range beyond Asia to places like Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Guadeloupe.
