This hot to cool-growing epiphytic orchid is found in Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, and the Philippines at elevations of 100 to 1200 meters, often on mangrove trees. It has a creeping rhizome with dark olive, grooved pseudobulbs spaced 1 to 2 cm apart, each bearing a single purplish leaf. Blooming in early spring, summer, and fall, it produces a slender, purplish, up to 15 cm long inflorescence with drooping, fragrant, shoe-shaped flowers.
