This small, unifoliate epiphytic orchid is found across Africa, Madagascar, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Pacific islands at elevations from sea level to 1700 meters. It thrives in rainforests and hill forests, often on vertical tree trunks near water. The plant has obliquely conical pseudobulbs with a single oblong, petiolate leaf. Blooming from spring to autumn, it produces a slender, 20 cm long inflorescence from a mature pseudobulb, bearing 6 to 8 foul-smelling flowers arranged in an umbel.
