This medium-sized, hot-growing epiphyte is found in the Malaysian Peninsula, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Moluccas, Sulawesi, and New Guinea at around 760 meters in elevation. It has widely spaced, furrowed, terete pseudobulbs covered by sheaths, each bearing a single tough, leathery leaf. Blooming in summer, it produces a long, many-flowered inflorescence with 6 to 8 foul-smelling flowers that do not open fully, arranged in a circular pattern. It thrives in warm, humid forest environments.
