Dendrobium sanguinolentum

This medium to large epiphyte grows in Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, and Borneo, found on roadside trees from sea level to 900 meters. It has thick, purple, pendulous stems with evergreen or sometimes deciduous leaves that are reddish or purple when young. Blooming in summer and fall, it produces a short raceme with 2 to 6 waxy, long-lasting flowers emerging from the nodes of leafless canes. It thrives in warm conditions and prefers a pendent growth habit.
