Dendrobium secundum ‘Red’

This medium to large, semi-pendulous epiphyte is found in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Java, Sumatra, Borneo, New Guinea, and the Philippines at elevations up to 700 meters. It has stout, tapered, sulcate stems with persistent, bilobed leaves. Blooming from late summer to late spring, it produces a 12.5 cm inflorescence from last year’s mature, leafless canes, carrying up to 50 waxy, glossy, fragrant flowers that do not fully open. It thrives in warm, dry lowland forests.
