This medium-sized orchid is found in Bahia and Espirito Santo, Brazil, growing in hot to cool conditions. It has clavate pseudobulbs with a single, erect, leathery leaf. Blooming in spring, it produces a 30 cm long racemose inflorescence emerging from a large basal sheath, bearing 3 to 4 fragrant, spicy-scented, short-lived flowers with variable colors.
