Bulbophyllum calceolus

This small, cool-growing epiphytic orchid is found in Borneo’s montane forests at elevations of 1200 to 1650 meters. It has a creeping rhizome with ovoid, yellowish to olive-green pseudobulbs spaced 0.5 to 1 cm apart, each bearing a single, thin, elliptic leaf with a shortly petiolate base. Blooming in spring, it produces an erect, basal inflorescence 5 to 8 cm long, carrying a single flower with a tubular floral bract.
