This very large, hot to warm-growing epiphyte is found in New Guinea’s rainforests at elevations of 100–600 meters. It has ovoid to elliptic pseudobulbs, each carrying a single, erect, elliptic leaf with a short petiole. Blooming in late winter and early spring, it produces a slender, 23 cm inflorescence that arches downward, bearing an umbel of 8–9 long-lasting, carrion-scented flowers held below the leaves.
