This mini-miniature to miniature epiphytic orchid is found in Sabah Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Flores, Bali, and Peninsular Malaysia at elevations of 1000 to 1600 meters. It grows in cool conditions on mossy branches and trunks, with a slow-creeping, branching rhizome. Its shiny olive-green, acutely quadrangular pseudobulbs are spaced about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart, each bearing a single oval to oblong leaf. In summer, it produces a short, basal inflorescence, 1.5 to 2.6 cm long, carrying two resupinate flowers.
