Bulbophyllum pileatum

This miniature epiphytic orchid is found in Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra at elevations up to 1000 meters, growing on mature mangrove trees in swamp forests. It has slender, cylindrical pseudobulbs spaced 1.6 to 3.1 inches apart, ringed with stiff bristles, and carries a single, gradually narrowed leaf with a short petiole. Blooming from winter through summer, it produces a fragrant, single flower on a 6 cm long, erect inflorescence that arises from the rhizome or the base of a pseudobulb.
