This mini-miniature epiphyte is found in Vietnam, India, Laos, and China at elevations of 500 to 1650 meters in evergreen and mixed forests. It has a creeping, branching rhizome with close-set, dark green, ribbed pseudobulbs, each carrying a single, flexible, thinly leathery, narrowly ovate leaf with a purple-suffused underside. Blooming in spring and summer, it produces a 3-inch, wiry, sometimes reddish inflorescence from old and new pseudobulbs, bearing up to eight fragrant (foul-scented) flowers in an apical cluster.
