Bulbophyllum purpurascens

This mini-miniature epiphyte is found in Thailand, Myanmar, Java, Borneo, and Sumatra at elevations of 900 to 1700 meters in lowland and montane forests, often overhanging water. It has small, ridged, shiny pseudobulbs spaced 1 cm apart, each carrying a single tough, leathery, elliptic, deciduous leaf. Blooming in spring, summer, and fall, it produces a slender, erect, up to 18 cm long inflorescence from an older pseudobulb, holding an umbel of 10 to 19 closely set flowers above the leaf.
