Chilochista lunifera

This small, leafless epiphyte is found in the eastern Himalayas, India, Assam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos at elevations of 150–600 meters. It thrives in hot to warm conditions, with gray roots and sometimes a small, deciduous leaf. Blooming in fall or winter, it produces an erect, pubescent raceme 7–30 cm long, carrying up to 20 fragrant flowers. The flowers emerge directly from the mass of gray-green roots, making this species unique in its growth and blooming habit.
