This miniature, hot to cool-growing epiphyte is found in India, Sikkim, Bhutan, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam at elevations of 350 to 1500 meters, often near streams. It has an ascending stem with several dark green veined, curved, bilobed leaves. Blooming in late winter and early spring, it produces a pendant, 22.5 to 60 cm long, occasionally branching inflorescence with ovate floral bracts, carrying up to 20 successively opening flowers.
