This medium-sized, hot-growing epiphyte is found in tropical forests of Central and South America at 70 to 500 meters. It has narrowly ovoid to oblong pseudobulbs with 4 to 6 deciduous, elliptic-lanceolate leaves. Blooming in fall (spring in Ecuador), it produces a 30 cm long, pendant racemose inflorescence with 15 to 20 or more showy, fragrant, fleshy flowers. The flowers, arising from mature, leafless pseudobulbs, have a strong citronella scent.
