Coelogyne asperata

This large, hot to cool-growing epiphyte or lithophyte is found in Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands at elevations up to 1600 meters, often near rivers and streams. It has compressed, ribbed, broadly conical pseudobulbs with long-petiolate, plicate leaves. Blooming in late winter to summer, it produces a 45 cm arching inflorescence with 15 to 40 short-lived, fragrant, waxy flowers. The flowers emerge from the apex of new growth, accompanied by large, dry, concave floral bracts.
