This giant-sized, cool to cold-growing orchid is found in Sabah, Borneo, at elevations of 1100 to 2400 meters in lower montane mossy forests. It grows as an epiphyte, lithophyte, or terrestrial with close-set, slender, cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying two narrow, plicate leaves. Blooming in spring and fall, it produces a 90 cm long, pendulous inflorescence with 24 to 65 flowers that open simultaneously. The flowers emerge from a newly growing shoot and have persistent, ovate to broadly ovate floral bracts.
