This small to large epiphyte or lithophyte is found in Hainan, Tibet, Assam, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam at 760 to 1600 meters in open forests. It has decurved or pendulous, olive-green stems with swollen nodes and deciduous, lanceolate leaves. Blooming from fall to spring, mainly in late winter and early spring, it produces short, few-flowered inflorescences with fragrant, long-lasting flowers emerging from upper nodes on leafy and old leafless canes, accompanied by boat-shaped, papery floral bracts.
